Internet Marketing – Trials and Tribulations
The act of marketing products or information on the Internet can seem like a viable solution to the average person who is sick of their 9 to 5. For many it could well be. You just need to keep in mind that essentially you are setting up your own business. As with any business, in order to be successful, you have to work very hard at.
Many people think that all you need to do is get your own website and start marketing affiliate products. I was guilty of the same thought process. As time goes by you begin to learn just how much work is truly involved.
It suddenly dawns on you that it’s easy to slap up the affiliate links but those links won’t make you any money unless you have people clicking on them. People can’t click on them because they don’t even know that your site exists. This is the point where you begin feverishly working on search engine optimization and building back links to your website. You may have even written a few articles and published them. That’s what everybody says you’re supposed to do!
You also know that you should be blogging because content drives traffic. If you can add new and valuable content everyday your organic traffic will increase heavily. So you start writing a blog. If you’re going to have a blog and a website you really should have email capability. You need to be able to build a marketing list otherwise who are you going to market the product to? Now you have to build email auto responders and opt in forms as well. These are common tools used for Internet marketing.
It’s about time. Months have went by and you finally have your website and blog up and running smoothly. You’ve done all the backbreaking SEO work on your own. You’ve built a state of the art email campaign and opt in form to begin adding visitors to your list. You are now truly set to make some serious money.
Days and weeks go by. You have visitors coming to your site now but you certainly aren’t making very much money if any at all. What’s the problem? You’ve done everything by the book! It could be a number of things. The problem could be that people don’t trust you. You have to earn their trust the same way you earn trust in a regular brick and mortar business. People don’t just buy from anybody. They buy from other people or businesses who have earned their respect. It takes time to build that respect.
It could also be that you just need to begin testing different products within your niche. There’s a lot to be said about testing. It has proven itself to be very valuable in the field of Internet Marketing.
You may possibly just need to get out there and start building your brand a little more rigerously. Branding your business is of the utmost importance. You want people to be talking about you. You want them to remember you.
I didn’t write this to scare people away from the field of Internet Marketing. I happen to love it. I wrote it to let people know that it’s not as simple as some would have you believe. In fact, 99% percent give up and fail right before they actually start profiting. To be successful with any profession you need to have a deep passion for what you do. Internet Marketing is no exception.
